A loan of $750 helped a member to buy fertilizer for her rice farm and school supplies for her children.

Chanthorn's Group's story

Chanthorn is 44 years old and a mother of seven children, two of whom are still in school. Her main source of farming income is from her four hectares of rice field. She has been in the rice-growing business for several years and has earned about 15,000 KHR per day.

In this group of three, Chanthorn is the leader. She and one of her co-members are second-cycle loan clients of VisionFund, while the remaining co-member is a first-time borrower. The past loan that Chanthorn has paid back helped her to improve her business and her standard of living gradually. Now, she and her group members are seeking a new loan in the amount of 1,000,000 KHR each. Chanthorn, the group's leader, will use her portion of the loan primarily to buy fertilizer for her rice farm; she will use some portion of the loan to buy school supplies for her children's education. She hopes to earn more profit from her current business and keep her children in school.
