A loan of $2,000 helped a member to buy ingredients to make corn on the cob to sell.

Abril Group's story

Abril is a solidarity group of six women, named after one of the daughters of one of the members. Sanjuana is 37 years old, and lives in a civil union. Her spouse has worked as a welder for 14 years for various companies. Their four children are aged 20 (this one is pregnant), 13, 8, and 4. They go to school. The 13-year old daughter helps Sanjuana with her business. Sanjuana sells corn on the cob, snow cones (also called 'yuquis') from a street stand. She has been selling snow cones for 13 years and corn on the cob for 4. She started her business by selling snow cones from a tricycle, and then a man taught her the recipe for corn on the cob and she found a good spot to sell those. The loan will help her to buy more corn, cream, chilli, and other ingredients to prepare corn on the cob, since with the cold season, her snow cone sales will be going down. She says that she is doing very well and is looking to set up a second corn-on-the-cob stand in order to increase her sales.
