A loan of $500 helped to buy supplies and pay for labor to plant 1/2 manzana of potatoes.

Uriel's story

Uriel is a farmer from the zone called La Quinta, on the outskirts of Estelí. He plants potatoes, peppers, and cabbages. He began this work 10 years ago on the lands that his father left him as an inheritance. The location is very fertile. In addition he has water resources that supply the irrigation system for the crops. His wife is a homemaker, but she also helps him plant, while his children attend secondary school. He needs a Kiva loan to buy supplies and pay for labor to plant half a manzana (about 0.86 acres) of potatoes. This will allow him to give better care to his crops. One of his projects is to buy one manzana (1.7 acres) of land and diversify his crops.
