Ana Lucia's story

Elida, 18, is a young, single woman living with her parents in Sololá. She graduated as an early education teacher. She’s a young, hardworking woman who wants to improve economically with her family. She is currently producing oyster mushrooms (Pleurotus ostreatus) with help from her parents who are the ones that care for the production. She’s been in this activity for 7 years having learned it from her parents while she was studying motivated by this same desire to improve her family’s living conditions since she’s an only daughter and wants to support her parents. She’s noted that mushroom production is having good results and she wants to increase production to earn higher profits which is why she’s requesting a 5,500 Quetzal loan to buy wooden shelving and mushroom mycelium for its production. Her greatest dream is to use income and profits from this business in the not too distant future to continue expanding production and improving profits and her family’s living conditions.
