A loan helped a member to buy building materials like cement, etc., for construction of a family dwelling house.

Issa's Group's story

Pictured above are teachers at a primary school in Koidu, a city in Eastern Sierra Leone. This group of teachers has come to SMT, a partner of Kiva, to apply for a loan of SLL 20,400,000 for the entire group.

With the help of this loan, they will be able to buy or invest in things that their mere salaries cannot let them buy or invest in. For example, some of them will use their share of the loan to invest in business; others will buy house-building materials, or a plot of land or pieces of furniture, or pay school fees for their children. At the end of each month, their school's bursar deducts the total repayment amount and pays SMT/Kiva lenders on their behalf.

Alhaji is the chosen featured leader of this group. He is 41 year old and a native of Small Sefadu, in eastern Sierra Leone. Alhaji is married to a businesswoman, and they have two children who are attending primary and secondary schools. Alhaji has been in the teaching profession for many years now. He has requested this loan to buy house building materials like cement, etc., for the construction of a family dwelling house.
