A loan of $2,175 helped to buy one milking cow, two head of cattle, and fodder.

Gulnara's story

Gulnara is a 34 year old divorced woman who is raising two sons alone. She is classified as an Internally Displaced Person (IDP) and lives in an IDP settlement. For the past 8 years she has been breeding cattle. After her divorce she was left with two small children and no financial help. She was committed and brave enough not to give up on providing her beloved children with the life they deserve. That`s how she decided to start her cattle business.

Gulnara usually buys small calves, raises and fatten them for 5-6 months, and then resells them for a profit in the livestock bazaar. Meat is in very high demand in Azerbaijan and people use it in everyday dishes like pilau and dolma. Gulnara also sells fresh milk and yoghurt to neighbors. Her monthly income is 120 AZN. She has applied for a loan of 1700 AZN to purchase one milking cow, two head of cattle, and fodder. This will be her third loan; she has a good client history.
