A loan of $600 helped a member to buy fertilizers and pesticides for his farmland.

Don's Group's story

Don is 59 years old and a married father who has been blessed with eight children, two of whom are dependent on him and still in school. He resides in a rural area of the Moung Russey district of Battambang province, Cambodia. To support the family, he has been working as a rice farmer for thirty years. Besides rice farming, he also grows sesame on a 6-hectare area of farmland. Don can earn from his current business approximately KHR 50,000 per day and manages to save about KHR 30,000 each day after offsetting daily expenses. Insufficient working capital is the main challenge for him to support his paddy-field.

Don has been a member of Kiva’s partner, VisionFund, for one cycle. The past loan, which he successfully paid back, has relieved his family’s burden and improved his livelihood. Now he is leading his group of two to apply for a loan of KHR 1,200,000 each. As the leader, Don will use his portion to buy fertilizers and pesticides for his farmland. He hopes to grow his business and earn a larger income to improve his standard of living.
