Abdulai's Group's story

Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT) is very pleased to present this group of secondary school teachers from Koidu Town, in Eastern Sierra Leone. This group of teachers has come to SMT, a partner of Kiva.org to apply for a loan. SMT/Kiva loans are designed for teachers and have proven to be very helpful to them. Usually, teachers’ salaries are small, making it impossible to invest their money on anything major. But with the help of these loans, they are now able to buy or invest in bigger things and, at the end of each month, repay the loans using their salaries.

Tamba is the leader of this group of borrowers. A native of Wordu in Kono, Eastern Sierra Leone, Tamba is a husband and a father of two children who are attending primary school. Tamba has been a teacher for 35 years now. With the help of this loan, he is going to pay school fees for his children and buy building materials such as iron corrugated zincs, sand, nails and cement for the construction of a dwelling house.
