A loan of $825 helped to buy more bags of maize and vegetables for keep.

Rose's story

Rose N. is fifty two years old. She is a wife and the mother of five children. She sells Kenkey (a local dish) in her town. For the past fifteen years she has supported four of her children to help them complete school.

Rose wishes to increase her production of Kenkey since her customer base has increased. However, she is constrained by inadequate capital. She wants to use the loan to buy more bags of maize and vegetables to store, especially in the face of price hikes that have resulted from the current food crisis. This will allow her to increase production and raise her income.

Rose belongs to the community group called Nkwabin Ladies Trust Group. In this group, members use social collateral to guarantee the loans for one another. They use positive peer pressure to encourage each other to repay the loans.
