María Auxiliadora's story

The Amor Y Paz community bank meets every fifteen days in the Calderón parish of the city of Portoviejo. There people work in agriculture, raising animals, and product sales.

María is 56 years old, married, and had seven children. One of her children died in an accident and the rest are adults. Two of them live with her and along with her husband, work in agriculture.

In order to earn her own income, more than 15 years ago she put a small store in her home. With time, she has been improving it and stocking it more every day. Currently, along with groceries, she also sells some medicines and telephone cards, which also earn her a good profit. She works every day from 6:00am until 10:00pm. She works alone, but sometimes her husband or children will help.

She will use this loan to purchase rice, sugar, and other basic products to stock her store. She is the founding member of the community bank and she likes it for the help it has provided her.

Her dream is to purchase a car to be able to get around.
