A loan of $4,075 helped a member to buy baby's clothes.

La Magia Del Sur Group's story

This communal bank is called “La Magia del Sur” (Magic of the South) and it has 17 enterprising members who are in a variety of lines of work among which are: firewood sales, food sales, household goods sales, crafts, furniture store and services, among others. All of them are from the city of Villarrica.

Pamela is a member of this communal bank and in the photo she’s standing fifth from right to left wearing a black shirt, print skirt, black leggings and gray shoes; her hair is dark brown and it’s long and worn loose.

She has been selling clothes for adults and for babies for the last three months. She comments that she works selling from place to place offering her goods door to door and sometimes to acquaintances. She manages her time according to her availability since her son is still very little.

The merchandise she needs she gets from family members or from friends and sometimes she buys it in the city of Santiago at low cost which is advantageous economically. She will use the loan just to buy clothes for babies.

One of Pamela’s goals is to change her line of work to fast-food sales because she needs to earn more income to support her family and have the option of a better quality of life.

Pamela lives with her husband and 11-month-old little boy. Her dream on a work level is to grow in lines of work that lead to new paths and on the personal level to finish her education and graduate with a degree.

She is very happy and grateful for the opportunity provided by Fondo Esperanza because it allows her to invest in her business. With respect to the communal bank she forms part of, she comments that good communication exists among them. On the other hand, the training has been useful to learn sales and bookkeeping strategies.
