A loan of $525 helped to buy thread and glass pearls to create her jewels.

María's story

María is a 25-year-old hardworking woman. She is single and she lives in Sololà. Together with her parents and some of her brother’s activities, her job helps contributing to their family’s economy.
She has always loved working ever since she was a child. She did not have the chance to study because her parents did not have the necessary economic means. She has then learned how to make the typical female clothes that are worn in her village and also how to engage in farming.
She now creates glass pearls items such as bracelets, birds, necklaces and earrings to give them to a wholesaler customer of her community that is constantly placing orders with her.
She has learned this activity from her sisters, as they were engaged in this activity as well. After a few years she decided to become independent by making her own products. She earns an acceptable income, thus improving her family’s earnings, and she has now been engaged in making these articles for 6 years.
Having notice that at this time of years there is an increase in the requests she receives, she is asking for a loan of Q 4,000.00 to buy glass pearls in different colors and thread to keep on creating more article and to satisfy all of her customers’ requests.
Her biggest dream is to expand her activity, selling products to more customers of her community, in order to help improving her family’s strand of living.
