A loan of $1,000 helped to purchase cereals.

Kadiatou's story

Kadiatou is more than 49 years old, married, and the mother of 7 children. She lives with her husband and their children in a large traditional extended family in Sanoubougou I, one of the popular neighborhoods of the city of Sikasso. After having tried many businesses without success, Kadiatou began her current business of selling cereals around 14 years ago. She operates a space in the market of Sanoubougou I in Sikasso. In order to be able to meet the growing needs of her customers, she decided to work with the microfinance organization Soro Yiriwaso. She is on her third individual loan, the first two having been fully repaid. Kadiatou plans to use this loan to purchase 20 bags of rice and 25 bags of millet. She purchases the cereals from wholesalers in Sikasso and then resells them at retail to a customer base made up generally of housekeepers and family cooks. She estimates she will earn a monthly income of 200,000 francs CFA with this loan, which will be used to increase her business capital, to contribute toward her family's expenses, and to pay off the interest on her loan.
