Baños (Cuenca) Group's story

The Baños communal bank is made up of 7 women who live in the Baños parish in Cuenca. This place is a tourist attraction because of its thermal baths where pleasant times can be enjoyed with family. Its cuisine attracts the palate of its own people and of visitors. Its people are characterized by their hospitality and charisma. They maintain the culture and traditions of their people, working every day to improve the financial stability of their homes.

One of the members of this group is Enma and she is taking out her first loan with the Baños communal bank. She is 32, married and has two children aged 12 and 4. Her oldest daughter is in high school. Her husband works as an employee in a private business. The house they live in is rented.

Enma is from the Santa Rosa canton in the Oro province. She came to Cuenca 8 years ago to improve her quality of life. Right now she does houework and cares for her children but with this loan she is going to start a clothes selling business.

She will invest the loan in buying cclothes to start the business.

Her goal is to own her own home in the city.
