A loan of $675 helped to buy chickens.

Hortencia Dolores's story

Hortensia is a member of the Las Toquilleras communal bank. All of the members live near the Sigsig canton, a place that is surrounded by mountains that gift us with beautiful scenery. Most of the women in this canton devote themselves to the household chores, work in agriculture, raise animals, or make straw hats. A lot of them work in the city, and they still maintain the culture and traditions of their villages.

Hortensia, age 40, is married and has four children, ages 20, 17, 14, and 12. Her first son works to pay his personal expenses, and her last three children attend a local school. Her husband works as a day worker. The house is her own property, as it is the fruit of their marital efforts.

She devotes herself to the household chores, and she raises animals like pigs and guinea pigs. She also works weaving straw hats, a business activity that she learned from her mother.

She will use the loan to buy chickens to start raising them.

Her goal is have her own business like a place to sell clothes.
