A loan of $575 helped to buy synthetic bags in bulk.

Manuel's story

Manuel is 39 years old and owns a business in the center of the city, in a very commercial area. He buys and sells sacks, a type of bag that can be made out of fique or synthetic thread. It is very useful for packing.

He came to Barranquilla, forced by the violence in the countryside. Looking to make enough to support his family's needs, he started his own venture. He is now selling more than 5000 sacks per week.

15 years ago, he started his business. He buys sacks from people that collect recyclable waste and bring them to his establishment. Manuel sells them mainly to two distributors that pack salt in the Manaure municipality, in the Guajira department. Here, the sea is the raw material of the salt industry, which is the base for the municipality's economy. The majority of the salt consumed in Colombia is produced here.

His goal is now to increase his capacity to buy, in order to supply even more customers. His working capital is insufficient to reach more customers. This is why he is requesting a credikiva, with which he will buy a larger amount of synthetic sacks. He hopes to make a bit more money in this way, which will benefit, even more, his family's well-being.
