Carmen is married and has three children who are independent. They live in their own home, which only has two rooms. The house is located in the District of Alto Obrajes in the city of La Paz.

Carmen works independently at the moment by handling the paperwork, whether legal or administrative, for her clients. She works more than eight hours a day, which helps her pay the cost of food and basic services for herself and her husband. The loan she is requesting will be used for general maintenance of her personal vehicle that she uses in her work. This helps her to travel as quickly as possible from place to place during work hours to the various public entities where she must file paperwork.

Carmen’s dream is to improve her earnings and have an office of her own where she can attract more clients and have job security. This is the third time she has worked with IMPRO, but the first time with Kiva.

Additional Information

IMPRO is a small non-profit organization that has been offering micro credit to the working poor in the Bolivian cities of La Paz and El Alto since 1995. IMPRO’s goal is to fight poverty by offering loans to small business owners who cannot access credit through the regular banking system due to a lack of guarantees or collateral.

To ensure that everyone has access to credit, IMPRO maintains a low interest rate by minimizing operational costs. IMPRO’s partnership with Kiva, which began in 2007, has allowed IMPRO to expand its services while maintaining these low interest rates.
