A loan of $400 helped a member to buy more matooke.

Aminah's Group's story

Aminah's group is comprised of 3 hardworking women. Aminah is 20 years old and lives in the town of Lugazi in the Mukono region of Uganda. She is married and has one child who is currently in school. For the past 2 years, Aminah has been working hard to manage her raw food stall, where she sells and cooks matooke.

To help expand her business, Aminah has requested a loan of 200,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more matooke, and will help Aminah to generate greater profits and use the profits to pay school fees for her child. Aminah hopes that in the future she will be able to expand her capital and keep growing her business.

Aminah is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
