A loan of $475 helped a member to buy fertilizer and pesticide for her cashew and cassava crops.

Samath's Group's story

Living in a wooden house with her family members in a rural village of the Dambae district, Samath is 43 years old and married with eight children. Five of her kids are still in school and dependent on her, while the other three have their own employment. She and her husband earn a living through planting cashew and cassava. With twenty years' farming experience, she manages to earn about 44,000 KHR per day and can save about 22,000 KHR each day for the family's future needs.

Samath is part of a loan group through Viva's partner, VisionFund. Her two-member group is made of she and another woman, both of whom have already successfully paid back their first loan. Samath used that first loan to support her family and pay for her children's education. As the group leader for this second loan, she wants to use her portion to buy fertilizer and pesticides for her farmland. She hopes that with these supplies, she can increase her crop yield and earn more income to improve her standard of living.
