A loan of $950 helped a member to buy fertilizer for her farmland.

Theavin's Group's story

Originally from a rural village of the Kandal Province’s Kandal Stoeng District, Theavin is a 27 year old mother of four dependent sons, all of whom are still in school. To support her children, she has been working as a tailor for eight years while her husband has been farming rice and sometimes supplementing the family’s income by working as a paid construction worker. Together, they can earn about KHR 20,000 per day, and can save about KHR 10,000 each day for future needs. Lack of working capital is the main challenge.

Theavin received her first loan from Kiva’s partner VisionFund a cycle ago, and she completely repaid the loan with VisionFund. She has used the past loan to better support her living. Now she is leading her group of four to apply for a loan. As the leader, Theavin will use her portion to buy fertilizer for her farmland. She hopes this loan will enable her to grow rice fruitfully and timely so as to better her standard of living and keep her children in school.
