A loan of $550 helped to purchase clothing.

María Mariuxi's story

The Guerra de los Sexos community bank meets every fifteen days in the Picoaza parish in the city of Portoviejo, a place known for being a commercial area, for the traditional feasts of San Pedro and San Pablo, and for the rich cultural history contained in its mountains.

Maria lives in this place. She is 22 years old, single, and lives with her parents and two younger brothers who are in high school. With the aim of helping her parents and brothers, she works selling all types of clothing. She sells door to door and works four days a week. During times she is unoccupied or when her customers need something she sells to them at their home. She takes credit and collects each week or every two weeks according to her customer's wishes. Every fifteenth or at the end of the month, she goes to Guayaquil to purchase her merchandise. She has had this business for more than three years and it allows her to get ahead.

This loan will allow her to go to Guayaquil to purchase all types of clothing. She has been a member of the community bank for three years and she likes it because of the help it has given her with the loans. Her dreams are to have her own store and to continue helping her parents and brothers.
