A loan of $1,975 helped a member to buy machines for butcher shops.

Primero De Octubre Group's story

The communal bank “PRIMERO DE OCTUBRE” will begin its first loan cycle with Pro Mujer as part of Centro Focal in Cascada. The group has nine members, and Yolanda is president of the group. The members' businesses include a butcher shop, blanket weaving, making handmade vicuña blankets, selling prepared foods and baked goods, selling beverages and noodle soup, and making skirts.

The loan benefits micro business owners such as Yolanda, who says she just joined Pro Mujer at the invitation of a representative of the institution who visited her home. She currently weaves macramé, a trade she learned from friends who taught her the techniques. She later started her own business.

Yolanda will use this loan to start another business, buying machines for butcher shops. She will purchase the machines from dealers in the city of El Alto and set them up in her home. This business will let her generate the most resources to support her family; she is married and has two children. When asked what she liked most about Pro Mujer, she said she liked the training.

In this group: Yolanda, Eulalia Julia , Pamela, Tomasa , Ursula Alicia , Maritza Lourdes, Elisa, Valeria, Roxana Daysi
