A loan of $600 helped to hire day laborers.

Ponciano's story

Ponciano is 49 years old and a widower. He is fortunate in that his children are already adults and able to face life independently. Through hard work, he was able to build a house from solid materials. Ponciano is a real expert in sowing and harvesting cacao. He currently has a lot of weeds growing on his land which prevents the cacao from growing and being harvested in optimal conditions. This means he faces difficulties in making a good profit for his crops. Ponciano has experienced many difficulties throughout his 30 years working as a cacao grower and on this occasion he needs to hire day laborers to naturally weed his trees so that he can avoid experiencing a fall in the quality of his produce. He also plans to grow more similar organic products. With his 18th loan, Ponciano feels confident and comments very happily that he enjoys meeting with his fellow community bank members. Ponciano will use his 1,500 soles to hire as many workers from his area as he can, to weed his land.
