A loan of $850 helped to buy perfume, creams, cosmetics and clothing.

Gladys Susana's story

In the city of Portoviejo, the capital of [the province of] Manabí and known for many years as the city of the royal tamarinds, the members of the community bank Mujeres en Acción [Women in Action] meet every two weeks.

Señora Gladys is 48 years old. She is separated from her husband, but from their relationship she has three children. Two are adults, and the other is 13 years old, goes to high school, and lives with Gladys.

She works in a daycare center, and also sells all kinds of clothing and Yanbal products (beauty products, cosmetics, perfume and women's accessories). Her sales method is going door-to-door in her free time, although she also sells to the mothers of the families where she works. She works every day; she leaves items on credit and collects every week. She has been doing this for more than a year, and it's gone very well for her. This is how she gets ahead on her own with her daughter.

This loan is to buy perfume, creams, cosmetics and all types of clothing. She has been with the community bank for eight years, and is the president of her group. She likes it because the payments are easy to make.

Her dream is to have a boutique.
