A loan of $400 helped to buy ten bags of organic fertilizer.

Cristina's story

Cristina, age 22, lives with her small five year old son and his father. They live in Cristina’s parents’ house in a small rural and agricultural community. Cristina is a happy and hard-working young woman. She has been farming and sewing since she had her son and began to live with her husband (five years ago).

However, she says that farming brings her greater satisfaction. She produces potatoes, peas, beans, and gladiola flowers on the land that she inherited from her parents and her mother and father in-law.

Together, she and her husband move all of the harvest to the markets. Every time they do this they get good income, which they use intelligently. A percentage is for the daily expenses, part is to reinvest in the field, and another part is to save. Cristina’s goals focus on the construction of her own house. For now she will continue with the crops, taking advantage of the rains this month.

This is her second loan with MFP, and she pledges to be punctual with her payments. She is the secretary of her communal bank, “Virgen de Fátima”, and she is a very dynamic member. With the 1,000 soles she will be able to get ten bags of organic fertilizer for her potato crops, which she planted a month ago.
