Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

Shamila's story

Shamila is a 35-year-old married woman. She has three children with ages ranging from 2 to 15. She describes herself as a hardworking woman. She operates a farm where she sells farm produce. She has been involved in this business for 10 years and employs four staff members. Her business is located within a productive agricultural area and her primary customers are traders from the nearby market. She describes her biggest business challenge to be the poor road network to the market area.

She will use the 5,800 Kenyan Shilling (KES) loan to purchase a solar lantern which will be used by her family members. Her business goal is to employ equipment having modern technology on her farm within five years. Shamila also runs a retail store which adds to her business income. She hopes that in the future, she will expand her retail store business and improve on farm production.
