Shirly, a 41-year-old married mother of two children, lives in Liposong, Ozamis City. To earn a living, Shirly is making and selling charcoal which is made from coconut shell. She has been doing this for 16 years and earns 25000 PHP a month.
Shirly joined the GDMPC family in 2008. She has asked for a loan of 25000 PHP to pay for the labor cost in charcoal making. In the future, Shirly hopes to acquire more resources to sustain her business operations and to sell her product for a higher price to other buyers, if possible.
Gata Daku Multi-Purpose Cooperative (GDMPC) was founded in 1992 by 32 farmer-members to empower people by providing livelihood opportunities and other support services. Today, it has over 15,000 members located in upland, lowland and coastal regions of the Philippines, and offers credit, savings, education, and various social services.
