A loan of $500 helped a member to buy fertilizer for her farmland.

Thom's Group's story

Thom is 54 years old and the mother of six children, one of whom is in her care. Her family lives in a rural area of the Preahnet Preah district of Banteay Meanchey province, Cambodia.

The primary source of her family‘s income is rice farming on two hectares of farmland. She has been in this business for 29 years and earns about KHR 20,000. She manages to save about KHR 10,000 each day after offsetting daily expenses. Low crop yield resulted from drought is the main challenge for her rice field.

Thom’s group consists of two members who have been with VisionFund for one cycle. She fully repaid the loan, which constantly supported her family with enough food and basic necessities.

She is now leading her group to ask for a loan from VIsionFund of KHR1,000,000 each. Thom is going to use her portion to buy fertilizer for her farmland.

She hopes this loan will enable her to grow her current business to earn a larger income. That will make convenient living conditions for her family and also fulfill her dream of having a decent house for living in.
