A loan of $1,100 helped a member to buy fertilizers and pesticides for her farmland.

Ly's Group's story

Ly is 33 years old and residing in a rural area of the Moung Russey district of Battambang province, Cambodia. She is married with three sons, all of whom are dependent on her and are still in school. The main source of family’s income is rice farming on seven hectares of farmland, a business which she and her husband have been engaged in for five years to support the family. Together, they can generate an income of approximately 20,000 KHR per day and manage to save about 10,000 KHR after deducting daily expenses. Drought is the main challenge for her farming business.

Ly’s group is composed of six members who are all the first cycle with Kiva’s partner, VisionFund. She is now leading her group to apply for a loan. Ly, who is the leader, will use her portion to buy fertilizers and pesticides for her farmland and use a portion of it to spend on gasoline. Ly hopes her crop yield will become more profitable so as to make a better living and keep her children in school.
