María Del Pilar is one of the group members. She has a spouse and two children. She works selling beauty products; she started in this business as an assistant to a girlfriend and this is how she gradually learned it and eventually started to work for herself. She currently spends five hours daily at work. In the afternoon she goes out looking for new customers. What she sells most are cosmetics, perfume and jewelry. What she enjoys most about her work is being able to relate to different people and on the other hand to be able to help her family with the money she earns, especially help with her children’s schooling costs. What she most wants is to become a beauty consultant. The current loan will make it possible for her to buy acquire beauty products that are on special promotion to subsequently resell. María Del Pilar wants to have a stable place to display her products and to do so would like to rent a space in some market; she hopes to do so soon. María Del Pilar is grateful for the support.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
