A loan of $1,175 helped a member to buy pigs and feed.

El Esfuerzo Group's story

El Esfuerzo is the name of a group made up of 6 women who each work to increase their economic resources and give their family a better quality of life. The group members are: Carolina, who raises pigs; Guadalupe, who sells sodas; Maria del Rosario, who sells sweets; Delfina, who raises pigs; Maria del Carmen, who sells groceries; and Mariana, who sells sodas. This group is located in a community called Guadalupe de Reyes, which is on the edge of the train tracks.

Delfina is a very happy woman who fights for what she wants. She is 30, studied through high school, and is married to Miguel who works as a day laborer. They have 3 children who are in school. She says that 2 years ago she started raising pigs because she wanted to earn a little money and be able to help her husband with the costs of the home. She says "I like this activity because I earn my money and I teach my kids to work since they help me in their free time." She raises the pigs from very small and when they are the right age and size she sells them and earns profits that she invests in the purchase of more pigs, along with paying school fees for her kids.

She will invest this loan in the purchase of two pigs and their feed to continue doing her work. In the future, Delfina would like for her children to be able to study a profession.
