Annastacia is a thirty-eight-year-old farmer in Nkubu County, Kenya. She is widowed, and lives with three of her children, all of whom are in school. She has been farming for seven years, producing milk, and growing fruits and vegetables, which she sells at the local market. Annastacia is employed, which helps her get an additional source of income.
She is requesting 40,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to purchase dairy goats. This will help her get more income, and will be of great help to her since she will be able to pay school fees for her children. She aspires to buy an extra piece of land that will help her increase her produce in the future.
Unreliable weather conditions, pests and diseases are her major challenges.
Annastacia says Juhudi Kilimo is doing a great job with small-scale farmers.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
