Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

A loan of $400 helped to buy manure and fertilizers, and to prepare the land.

Alfredo Eduardo's story

Alfredo is a young man of 19 who lives in the charismatic city of Chincha. The city is charismatic because the people who live there are very cheerful. They perform a lot of traditional Peruvian dances such as el festejo, la zamacueca, landó, etc. Alfredo really enjoys researching exotic plants but what he most enjoys is caring for animals. For this reason, he is studying for a degree in veterinary medicine.

Alfredo works in his small business growing chrysanthemums. He works around 6 hours a day as he shares his time between work and his studies. He believes that his business is doing well because he is very friendly with his customers and because he sells good-quality products.

Alfredo is very grateful to Kiva lenders because, thanks to the help that they provide, he will be able to buy manure for his flowers. He will also be able to prepare his land to sow more chrysanthemums. This means he will have more to sell and he will be able to improve his customer service. He will be able to continue working hard to fulfill his biggest dreams: to finish his degree and to grow his business.
