A loan of $1,425 helped to buy a cow.

María Laura's story

María is one of the founding members of the communal bank 10 de Agosto (August 10th). She lives close to the Santa Ana parish, in an area surrounded by beautiful landscapes. A large part of the city of Cuenca can be observed from the center of the parish. The local people work in agriculture, trade and raising livestock. Young people in particular work in the city, carrying out different economic activities. The people, especially the elderly, maintain their culture, traditions and clothing.

Maria is 58 years old, is married and has four children with her spouse. All of her children are adults: three of them are married and live independently, and her single son works to cover his personal expenses. Her husband works as a security guard, and she owns her own house.

Maria spends most of her time doing chores in her home, and in order to contribute financially to her household, she breeds cows, guinea pigs, birds and pigs, which she later sells in her community. She also works in agriculture, and everything she grows is consumed by her household.

Maria will invest her new loan in the purchase of a cow. Her dream is to own more animals.
