A loan of $575 helped to buy rice in bulk, cooking oil and other ingredients.

Alcira Isabel's story

Alcira has four years of experience selling lunches. She decided to start her small business selling food to her neighbors in the part of town where she lives. This is because she has a great talent for cooking, and wanted to take advantage of this to generate income.

Each day she shops at the neighborhood stores and cooks delicious soups and more, with vegetables, meats, chicken and tubers. She sells directly to her customers from her home.

To complement her income, she also rents washing machines to her neighbors, who take them directly from Alcira's house to their homes.

Alcira is applying for a Kiva loan, the first loan she is taking out with Fundación Mario Santo Domingo, by means of which she will buy rice in bulk, cooking oil, and other ingredients.

She will also invest in the purchase of two more washing machines, in order to rent them out and earn a little more; taking into account the fact that her clientele for this service has grown.

With the ability to buy in bulk, she can take advantage of greater discounts, and can also save on transportation.

If she can earn sufficient income in her businesses, she will acquire her own home in the future.
