A loan of $500 helped a member to buy fertilizer and insecticides for her farmland.

Bom's Group's story

Bom is 48 years old and married with four children, all of whom are dependent on her and still in school. She lives in a rural area of the Dambae district of Kampong Cham province, Cambodia.

To support the family, she has been involved in rice farming on three hectares of farmland for 20 years and cassava planting on one hectare of farmland. The current business earns her about KHR 45,000 per day, and she manages to save about KHR 20,000 each day after daily expenses.

Bom has been with Kiva’s partner, VisionFund, for one cycle and completely repaid the loan, while the other is just with VisionFund this cycle. She has smartly used the first loan to better support her current business.

Now she and her group member are applying for a loan of KHR 1,000,000 each. As the leader, Bom will use her portion to buy fertilizer and insecticides for her farmland.

She hopes this loan will enable her crop yield to become more productive so she can sell it for a good price and improve her standard of living.
