A loan of $1,475 helped to buy handicrafts and ceramics to sell.

Marlene's story

Marlene, 38, is a single mother of 2. Her children, aged 18 and 9, attend school. Marlene is from the municipality of Malpaisillo, in the department of Leon, which is located in the western part of the country.

Marlene has had a business selling handicrafts and ceramics for 14 years. She goes to sell twice a month to neighboring Costa Rica, because she has advance orders from regular and casual customers. She sells decorated products made of clay, including dolls, angels, vases, jars, kitchen decorations, barrels, and chocolate stirrers.

Marlene needs a loan to use as working capital so that she can increase her earnings by offering more products and providing better quality service. Marlene has already worked with the FUNDACION and other Kiva loans, and has demonstrated an excellent history of making her payments on time and in full. Marlene is grateful for the help that the Kiva lenders are providing to people with few economic resources in poor countries like Nicaragua, so that they can have a decent life.
