A loan of $450 helped purchase prime materials and supplies to make clothing for cocktail events, weddings and baby clothes.

Isabel Maria's story

Isabel is 30 years old and has her own clothing workshop. She lives in Barranquilla with her three year old daughter. Isabel has always been interested in art and design because she went to a school that put a lot of emphasis on sewing and design. She began working making clothing 5 years ago but she has only had her own workshop for one year now and she sells party dresses and every day wear that she makes herself, directly to her customers. A particular challenge she faces in living in a inward facing apartment, which doesn't give visibility to her business, nevertheless, she works to make herself known to potential customers and this is one of the motivations she has in life, in order to gradually grow her business through financing and be able to increase her earnings in order to move her business to another location and also in the future purchase a house. She is currently applying for a loan, which is her first with Kiva and the Fundación Mario Santo Domingo, with which she will purchase primary materials and supplies for making clothing for cocktails events, weddings and baby clothing. If her business grows enough, she will purchase sewing machines and employ other people, which would be her dream.
