The group Bantagnel was created on August 13, 2011 when their 'banc villageois' was inaugurated. It comprises 30 members living in the same district. This group is characterized by a good social atmosphere. The name Bantagnel is borrowed from the district sheltering it. Their main work involves small-scale commerce.

Ms. Binta (seated at the far right) is the featured borrower of the group. She is 30 years old and unmarried, and she lives with her parents. She is a vendor of fruit drinks made with local products, such as hibiscus flowers, 'monkey bread' (the fruit of the baobab tree), ginger, tamarind,…. Right now she has a small machine enabling her to package 250-ml quantities of drinks in plastic pouches at a price of 100 francs CFA each. She sells at the central market in her district. She enjoys good experience in this business for having worked at it for over three years.

Her new loan will allow her to do better in stocking up on the ingredients for making different drinks for resale.

With the profits, she plans to develop her business, to assist her parents in covering day-to-day expenses, and in particular to gain financial autonomy.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
