A loan of $1,000 helped to buy more timber for resale.

David's story

David is 30 years old and lives in the town of Arua hill in the Arua region of Uganda. He is married and has three children, one child currently in school. For the past nine years, David has been working hard to manage his small business, which sells timber.

To help expand his business, David has requested a loan of 2500, 000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more timber for resale, and will help David to generate greater profits and pay school fees for his child. David hopes that in the future he will be able to be more independent.

David is a member of BRAC's Small Enterprise Program (SEP). The program primarily serves small entrepreneurs like David who do not have enough collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown too large for microloans.
