Lotosoa Saleimoa Centre - Group 2's story

Lotosoa Saleimoa Centre - Group 2 is the second group of women from Lotosoa Village, located on the Northwest corner of Upolu Island in Samoa, to ever receive the maximum initial loan of about US$300 each from SPBD. According to policies and guidelines of SPBD, this first loan will have to be used to either start or improve businesses. During the second loan cycle, the women will have the chance to improve their homes and pay their children’s education fees. Prior to receiving their first loan, all of them were trained by loan officers from SPBD in starting a business and in budgeting income and expenses.

The businesses (and the relevant purchases) of this particular group of women include: taro plantations (weed killers, pesticides, chemicals, wheel barrow, shovel), retail shops (hygiene products), pancake sales (sugar, flour, oven), BBQ (soy sauce, mutton flaps), fishing (boat, spear, boots) and ice cake sales (sugar, plastic bags).
