A loan of $300 helped to buy supplies, manure and fertilizers, and to pay workers to sow maize and beans.

Carlos Manuel's story

33-year-old Carlos is a farmer. He is married and the father of four children. Three of his children are in school but not the youngest because he is only 2 months old. Carlos and his family live in San Lorenzo, a community which is located on the outskirts of Teustepe, in Boaco municipality.

Carlos did not attend school as he has spent most of his life working like most other people in his rural area. He started working with his father when he was 11 years old, learning how to sow crops and raise livestock. He now does this work on his own. His main crops are maize and beans.

Carlos needs a loan to buy supplies, manure and fertilizers. He will also pay workers to sow maize and beans. This will help him to provide better care for his crops which he hopes to sell for a good price so that he can cover his costs and re-invest in his business. This will enable him to gradually expand the area over which he grows his crops.
