A loan of $800 helped to stock up on raw materials and add more artisans to his workshop.

Alejandro's story

Alejandro is an artisan who specializes in traditional Andean retablos (dioramas). He would like to stock up on raw materials and invite other artisans to assist him in his workshop.

Alejandro has been selling through NOVICA since 2002. This is his story:

Andean artisan Alejandro creates retablos –- colorful dioramas unique to the Ayacucho region of Peru. Each tiny figure is shaped and painted by hand and displayed in a delightful tableau. "In every one of my works you can find the labors of my wife, who molds the characters, as well as that of my nieces and nephews, whom I currently teach. The customs and traditions of the Andean people emerge in every retablo we create."

"I want to thank all of you who support us Peruvian artisans. In my case, I really need to buy materials and add more artisans to my workshop, so I can expand production and create new designs. In this way, the workshop I inherited from my parents can grow, and I hope my children can continue with this craft and surpass my own achievements. Many thanks."
