A loan of $600 helped to buy sacks of fertilizer.

Beronico's story

Beronico, 53, is a hardworking man with strong ideas and desires to excel. He has been a widower for many years. He lives with his mother and his four children in their own house, which he bought with much effort. Beronico works in agriculture. He has 36 hectares of land, where he is engaged in a project that has him sowing at least 6 hectares of oil palms; there is a fair amount of demand for this product since it is actually an alternative crop to the coca plant. He has been in this business for more than 7 years; for support, he contracts up to 2 workers, whom he pays 20 soles a day each, in addition to the support that he gets from his children. He considers his business profitable because of the demand for the product and the profits it provides. He says he likes the country life as it has brought him much happiness, like the income to pay household expenses. Seeing how his projects are going, and seeing the good results from them, he plans to continue his work and expand the number of hectares sown with palms to twice what he currently has. This is his second loan with MFP; he is happy to have the financial support to realize his projects. He also says that he is comfortable with his community bank as he considers the members to be good people. With the requested loan of 1500 soles, he will invest the entire amount in he purchase of fertilizer for the cultivation of oil palms.
