Geronimo's story

Geronimo is 31 years old, is a native of the Cusirisme region outside of Teustepe, is a farmer by trade, and he has a son who is three years old. His wife is a homemaker and he works to support the family. He grows corn, beans, and wheat and has been doing so since the age of 15 when he worked alongside his father. Now he has been working for himself for five years. He has a horse and a pump which he uses to fumigate his crops and protect them against pests, and he has a worker who helps him in the fields. When the planting season is low, he travels to neighboring Costa Rica to work on other farms cutting coffee. He invests what he earns in his home and in his own crops. The majority of his produce he sells locally. He needs the financing to purchase supplies and pay labor wages in order to plant beans and corn. Once he has paid off his loan, he would like to purchase a plot of land to increase his planting area. His current area is small and he hopes to continue farming more so that he will be able to attend to the needs and well-being of his family.
