Venceremos Group's story

The community bank “Venceremos” (We will conquer) is comprised of 8 members, 6 of whom are single mothers with 10 children to care for. Two members are male. They all belong to the area Malpaisillo that is a place that is characterized as an agricultural zone where one can sow corn and wheat and produce milk. The members of this bank decided to unify to obtain credit from the foundation and get ahead in their different businesses. The members are hard working and honorable. They also have hopes of overcoming their situation to get ahead with their children so they can have better opportunities. Benita is the coordinator of the community bank ”Venceremos” (We will conquer). She is responsible that each of the members pays their repayments on time and that they all support each other in an organized way. Benita has a grocery store located in her house. She has 5 years experience. She needs the loan to invest capital in her work and supply her grocery store with daily necessities such as: basic grains, oil, bread, milk, eggs, delicacies, tiste (corn and cocoa drink) among other things. This way she will satisfy the demand of her clients that are her neighbors and increase her earnings. The members of the community bank “Venceremos” (We will conquer) are grateful to the help given to them by the Kiva investors to low income people in underdeveloped countries such as Nicaragua so the members have a dignifying work source.
