A loan of $2,475 helped a member to purchase efficient cook stoves for sale.

Githagara Women Group's story

Mary, Hellen, and Selina are group leaders of Githagara Women's Group, which is based in Kiambu. They have been with VEP since 2010 and have worked to purchase two dairy cows each. The dairy cows generate daily income for the women, allowing them to put their children through school. They have approached VEP to supply them with 70 cookstoves, which they can sell to other women in their community as an income generating activity. Their aim is to have a distribution shop for both charcoal and firewood energy saving cookstoves. Alongside the cookstoves they will also sell charcoal and pieces of firewood to create a one-stop shop for their customers. This business will generate consistent income to repay the loan and meet their families' needs.
