A loan of $1,150 helped a member to buy pig feed and five piglets to raise.

Chan's Group's story

Chan is a 47-year-old mother of five children, only one of whom is dependent on her. Her family lives in a rural area of the Mongkoul Borey district of Banteay Meanchey province, Cambodia. To support her family, she has been engaged in raising three pigs and complementing her income by working for another person for a fee. The current business earns her about 25,000 KHR and allows her to save approximately 10,000 KHR each day after offsetting daily expenses.

Chan has been a member of Kiva’s partner, VisionFund, for two cycles already. She successfully repaid the past loans which have helped to relieve her family’s burden and improve her livelihood. Now she is leading her group of four members to apply for a loan with VisionFund. Chan will use her portion to buy pig feed and five piglets for raising. She hopes this loan will enable her to fatten her pigs so as to sell them for a good price in order to improve her family's living conditions.
