A loan of $750 helped a member to buy fertilizer and pesticides for her farmland and feed for her pigs.

Semny's Group's story

Semny, is a villager living in a rural area of Moung Russey in Battambang province, Cambodia. She is 24 years old, married and blessed with two children, both of whom are too young for school.

Semny and her husband earn their living by growing and selling rice. For the past several years they have also raised pigs. Each day Semny earns about 13,000 KHR. Her main challenge farming her paddy is drought.

Semny’s group consists of three members, all of whom are first-time borrowers with Kiva’s partner VisionFund. As leader of her group, she is applying for a 3,000,000 KHR loan to be split three ways. She will use her portion to buy fertilizer and pesticides for her farmland and feed for her pigs.

With this loan Semny hopes to increase her crop’s yield. Greater productivity, and so increased profits will help her make life better for her family.
