Rafael's story

Rafael, 46 years old, is a hardworking entrepreneur, and very good-humored and friendly. He is cohabiting with Graciela who is a merchant and mother of two children. He lives with his partner and one daughter, whom he loves very much, living comfortably in his own home. Rafael works growing oil palms. He has his own land, a tract of 20 hectares, with 7 hectares of oil palm cultivation that are in production, with an alternating crop of coca leaves. He began this activity 4 years ago, when he gained possession of this area with the technical support of a private company, to whom he sells all the production, having to contract up to two laborers for harvest time with daily pay to each one, in addition to the help of his partner. He considers the business profitable because of the demand for the product and the good profits he gets. He likes the work as he has an office to work in and he likes the field work too and the financial income that he generates with the sale of his harvest that takes care of the household expenses. On the other hand, he does not like the pests that affect his plantations, and so he has to be on the watch and be alert of any outbreak. He also has plans to continue growing and of buying a heavy-load vehicle to transport his crop. This is his 16th loan with MFP, and with the assistance he can finalize his plans. Furthermore, he says he feels good about the communal bank as he has known the members for a long time and he considers them to be trustworthy and united. With the requested amount of 3500 soles he will invest the entire amount in the purchase of fertilizer to grow his oil palms.
